About IP addresses
What is a public IP address?
It's the address your internet provider gives your connection so that the rest of the internet can reach you. Everything you load — websites, apps, games — sees it. Your devices at home share it behind your router.
Does it reveal where I live?
Not precisely. It reveals the area your provider registered the address block in. That's often your city, sometimes a neighbouring one, and on mobile networks it can be hundreds of kilometres off. It does not reveal your street.
How do I change it?
Restart your router: most providers hand out dynamic addresses and you'll usually get a different one. To decide which address sites see, connect through a VPN — the site then sees the VPN server's address instead of yours.
